I do simple coloring of niobium and titanium.
In doing flat work, the biggest problem I had was putting a hole in the piece to color and
then hang in an earring. For two years I looked for drill bits that would drill a
neat hole in the metal. I never had much success, the bit would wander, get the
metal hot even underwater, or break. In Tucson, in the big tent was Miland Suess
selling hand tools he had made. We tried one of the pliers punches he had made on
niobium. What a great find! It put nice neat holes in the niobium without a
problem. The round 1 mm punch pliers continue to be my favorite tool. In three
years I have found a lot of different uses for the punch.

beaders. Double flush cut is perfect for chain making. Makes cutting wire fast
and accurate. Metal forming using the channel metal wrap is perfect.

The smaller handles are great for a woman's hand, too, and my hands don't get sore during

I hand fabricate sterling silver parts from
heavy gauge sheet and wire. The separate parts must fit together EXACTLY to be
properly fused together. This is an ancient technique called "marriage of
metals" and Miland's hand tools are priceless for this precision craftsmanship.
They allow me to bend heavy gauge metal with virtually no scarring on the surface, to fit
exact size and shape requirements and with little or no strain on the hands. I am 50
and have been a professional jeweler for 29 years. Before that I got a B.A. in Art
from Penn State University and no where have I found such tools as his, so perfectly
suited for specialized jobs. When I first ran across his display in Tucson I said
out loud: "Where have you been my whole life!" and meant it. I produce a
unusual line of my own original designs and sell at 22 shows a year. The few tools
of Miland's I own have made my work much easier and I plan to get more. Thanks

Hi! I met you last year at the Tucson
show. We were venders there for the first time. I don't know if you will
remember me as you see so many people but I kept coming back to your booth. I used
to work for the Boston Mounted Police. We have your video and I have passed it
around to like minded friends. Having worked horses my whole life I have tendinitis
in my working hand...Your tools have given me much relief and my work is much more
professional in looks and I am free to work longer pain free...Thank you and I hope to
